WHAT IS THE FREEDOM FOUNDATION?
We were alerted today that employees of an organization targeting public sector workers and your pensions were handing out fliers outside Court and County buildings attempting to discourage union membership. The organization is called the Freedom Foundation, and they have been trying to obtain personal information about public workers in order to target you at your homes and by phone. If you are confronted by one of their volunteers, we wanted to alert you to some facts about who they are and what they hope to accomplish.
FUNDED BY WEALTHY SPECIAL INTERESTS
An organization funded by the wealthiest CEOs and billionaires is bent on undermining workers rights by weakening unions so they can outsource your jobs and cut your pay. They do not disclose their donors, however researchers have identified links to some of the nation’s largest front groups for the ultra-wealthy such as the Koch brothers, the Devos Foundation, and the Walton Foundation.
THEY AREN’T ABOUT FREEDOM
The Freedom Foundation is a political organization that calls, emails or even visits you at home to mislead you into abandoning your union brothers and sisters before attacking your pay and benefits. Unions are one of the last checks on corporate power. The Freedom Foundation tries to dismantle unions so they are free to push their corporate agenda.
THEY FIGHT AGAINST WAGE INCREASES
The Freedom Foundation fights against public employee pay raises. Their goal is to dismantle government, cut public services and outsource public sector jobs.
THEY HURT MIDDLE CLASS FAMILIES
The Freedom Foundation continues to lobby against policies that nurture strong and healthy communities. They oppose paid sick leave, the minimum wage, and collective bargaining rights.
OPPOSE COLLECTIVE BARGAINING RIGHTS
Collective bargaining give workers the ability to have a seat at the table. The Freedom Foundation has sponsored numerous initiatives that would undermine the ability for workers to organize to fight for a fair wage for a hard days work as well as strong benefits and safe working conditions.
WHAT DOES THE FREEDOM FOUNDATION HAVE TO SAY?
They have publicly opposed pay raises for public employees.
It makes little sense to promote a pay raise for state employees who are satisfied enough with their jobs that 90 percent of them choose to remain employed by the state.

Enrollment in IBEW’s “A” membership status entitles you to enter the IBEW Pension Benefit Fund (PBF) as well as death benefits. The breakdown is cost to you is as follows: $40.50 per month – $4.50 per year for continuous standing as an “A” member at retirement age and gets you $6,250 at time of death.
