Member Stories with Josie Carreon

My name is Josie Carreon.

I greatly appreciate the help and support I received from the Engineers and Architects Association. On May 1, 2018, my carpool and I applied for carpool parking at Figueroa Plaza. We waited patiently. On June 5, 2018, after more than one month of waiting, I contacted EAA for help. EAA contacted the Employee Benefits Parking office and was told that the hundreds of empty parking spaces were reserved.

On July 3, 2018, an EAA representative met me at Figueroa Plaza and toured the parking lot with me. The representative then had multiple exchanges of emails with the Employee Benefits staff that did not produce positive results. On July 16, 2018, EAA’s Executive Director signed a letter requesting a space by space audit of all parking spaces at Figueroa Plaza. The letter stated that if the audit was not performed then EAA would contact the Mayor’s office.

Two days later my carpool and I received a notice that our carpool parking in Figueroa Plaza was approved!

I am very thankful for EAA’s help. I believe that EAA not only helped my carpool and me, they helped everyone on the waiting list above us. Imagine if there was no EAA. Who would help us? No one. The Union helps us get our very good benefits. I will save $1,491 in parking fees per year because of EAA.

I also want to thank EAA for providing scholarships for the deserving children of EAA members. Our son was awarded an EAA scholarship in 2014 which inspired him to become a mechanical engineer. He graduated in 2017 and got an excellent job.

Thank you very much EAA!!
